What type of music do you play?

I will play whatever music you and your guests would like to listen and dance to.
My library has over 15,000 tracks covering most genres from the 50s to current music. Every function is different and I will tailor your event around what you and your special guests would like to here. I am not a DJ who plays the same old music at every event in the same order.

How far in advance should I book?

You should get a DJ booked as soon as you have your venue booked. A lot of popular dates are booked up 12 months ahead.

How do I know you will turn up for my event?

I am proud that I have never cancelled an engagement in the seven years I have owned my own business. I will send you a written contract every booking I take which will give you peace of mind. Beware of many multi DJ company’s who will cancel on you at the last minute because a better offer came along or they didn’t have anyone to DJ your event. I get at least three calls a month from people who have been let down at the last minute by other companys. I’m usually booked and feel really sorry for these people as they have had their special event ruined.

How do I book you?

When you have made the decision to book with Spin City Sound, you can call or email me and I will send you a contract to sign and return with a deposit to secure your date.

You have an online music selector. Do I have to select music for my event. Can’t you do it?

You can leave it up to me if you like and I will use my experience to read the crowd. It’s always good to get at least ten tracks you like to get an idea of the type of music you enjoy.

What is your dress code when you DJ?

I will always ask the client what they would like me to wear.

• A formal tuxedo
• Dress Shirt and trousers with a tie
• Smart casual
• If a themed 60’s 70’s 80’s or fancy dress would you like me to join in the fun.

Can I meet with you to discuss my Function?

Yes you can. We can set up a time to meet and discuss your arrangements either at the function venue or a place that is convenient for you.

Do you talk all night on the microphone?

I can be as interactive as you require. I find events can be ruined by a DJ who constantly talks and shouts over the microphone all night. I will ask you in our consultation what level of interaction you would like as far as microphone usage goes.

Do you play music loud all night?

 No functions are ever the same but most functions people want to talk and catch up with friends and relatives so I will keep the volume low. Gradually increasing it over the night. I use professional sound equipment with the latest in audio technology and will keep the sound at a level that will let people talk as well as dance.

I can’t find the music I want on your music selector?

My database is updated every three months so, although you can’t find it, I will probably have it in my library. I make the promise that I will endeavour to find the music that you would like to hear and will spend up to $40 to purchase music I don’t have. I would need at least one weeks notice to try to find any rarities.

Do you play ethnic music?

 I’m happy to discuss playing ethnic music at your function. If you would like some Greek, Italian, Vietnamese, Arabic, Albanian or any other ethnic music mixed in, I’m happy to talk with you. If you are looking for the whole evening to be ethnic, then I would suggest going with a DJ who specialises in that field of music.

Why should I book with Spin City Sound. Aren’t all DJ’s the same?

No, they aren’t. There are a lot of different DJ’s out there for hire:

• There are the multi DJ companys who will take as many bookings as they can, usually at the cheapest price in town and will usually find they don’t have a DJ available and will cancel on you at the last minute.
• Most of their DJs are students or school leavers who they pay very poorly and who quickly get fed up with the poor pay and late nights. After a few months, they leave for the whole process to be repeated again.
• Their equipment can be very low grade with a poor quality sound that is harsh on the ears.
• It’s a gamble not knowing who your DJ will be for the night and what his dress code will be. How would you like a DJ to show up in scruffy jeans, tshirt and trainers for your wedding.
• They show no interest in your event or your musical tastes, preferring to educate you and your guests with there own musical tastes.
• Put up big ugly banners at the front of their show.
• Supply low quality ugly lighting or none at all.

One of the other common types of DJs you will find is the "mate" who could be a club or a bedroom DJ who has offered to DJ your event for a small fee. He may be great in a nightclub environment playing the latest dance music, but trying to keep a wedding crowd with such a varied age range happy is very different. They usually have to rent out sound and pa equipment and find they don’t have the necessary music in there collection. It all becomes too hard and they may find an excuse to get out of doing it altogether, leaving you to find a DJ at the last minute.

There are also several good DJs out there who are proud of what they do and offer a great service.

I could go on forever but the point is - don’t be fooled by the cheap prices. Who knows who will show up for your event. You may get lucky and get a good DJ, but why take the risk.
